Jigsaw puzzles were originally created by painting a picture on a flat, rectangular piece of wood. The image was then cut into small pieces with a jigsaw which explains the origins of the name. John Spilsbury, an English engraver and mapmaker, is credited with inventing the first jigsaw puzzle in 1767. Though puzzles have become more cost effective and faster to make with the invention die-cut (stamping) machinery, we love the idea of wooden puzzles which are a throwback to the golden age of jigsaw puzzles.
Our most popular brand is Liberty Puzzles which are manufactured in Boulder, Colorado. Each puzzle contains dozens of hand-drawn “whimsy” pieces that are intricately cut into the shapes of characters, animals, and geometric designs. They are works of art within art.
These beautiful puzzles are a wonderful way to bring family and friends together. In the absence of devices and other distractions, this precious quality time allows opportunities to have more meaningful conversations. Whether in groups or completed individually, puzzles are also a great way to unwind and challenge the brain in a new way. These puzzles are the ultimate gift for families and friends.
